Dr. Bernard Harris is a physician, astronaut, venture capitalist, and philanthropist. A veteran NASA astronaut, he has logged more than 438 hours and traveled over 7.2 million miles in space. He has been involved in math and science education for over twenty-five years through the Harris Institute/Foundation. He holds a Bachelor of science in biology, Master of medical science, Master of business administration and a Doctorate of medicine. He is also a licensed private pilot and certified scuba diver.
Dr. Harris serves on the board of directors for a number of Fortune 500 companies and is the recipient of numerous awards, including nine honorary doctorates, the NASA Space Flight Medal and Award of Merit, and the National Space Grant Distinguished Services Award. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the recipient of the Horatio Alger Award (’00).
