David Sokol was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He worked as a paperboy, a caddie, and a grocery clerk before graduating from the University of Nebraska. He then embarked upon a business career, working as a structural engineer for one of the top five engineering firms in America. In 1984, David was selected to run a start-up waste energy subsidiary called Ogden Products, Inc., which by 1990 had grown from four to 1,200 employees. In 1991, David was named CEO of CalEnergy, which was renamed MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company in 1999. He went on to serve as chairman and CEO of MidAmerican, which was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2000. In addition, he served as the chairman and CEO of NetJets as well as several additional Berkshire Hathaway companies. In 2011, David founded hisown private equity firm, Teton Capital, LLC.
