Chris Cavey

Political strategist, campaign executive, and former cabinet secretary Chris Cavey has devoted his career to understanding how candidates win the trust of unexpected voters. After a thirty-two-year career as the owner of a successful insurance agency in Hampstead, Maryland, Cavey moved into senior campaign leadership, serving as field operations director for Governor Bob Ehrlich’s 2010 campaign and political director for Larry Hogan’s successful gubernatorial campaign in 2014. He served in Governor Hogan’s administration as Maryland’s Secretary of Appointments from 2016 to 2023, and later as a senior advisor on Hogan’s 2024 US Senate campaign. Cavey attended the University of Maryland, where he studied agriculture. He and his wife, Cathy, live outside Hampstead, Maryland. The Politics of Permission is his first nonfiction book.
